Position Summary | The IU School of Medicine has an exciting Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity in the team led by Dr. Thomas M. O’Connell in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and Dr. Chunhai Charlie Hao in the Department of Pathology & Lab Medicine. Our team investigates targeted protein degradation for the discovery of small molecule degraders of oncoproteins. The team has recently reported the first small molecule degraders of SUMO1 as novel anticancer drugs (Bellail et al. Sci Transl Med 2021, 13:e12947). This recruit will join the team to investigate the mechanism of drug action in drug-induced metabolic reprogramming in brain glioblastoma and evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the degraders in treatment of this most malignant human brain cancer. In addition, this recruit also has opportunity to work on new projects in the discovery of small molecule degraders of other oncoproteins. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to attend and present his/her work in national and international meetings. The position is funded by NIH and foundation grants and salary is based on NIH standard postdoctoral fellowship staring at $56,484 plus full benefits. Basic Qualifications | Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences and a strong background in cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology and/or biochemistry, and related fields. Experience in animal studies is not required but the candidates is willing to learn and work with cancer animal models. A strong commitment to bench experimental work is expected. A naturally collaborative and self-motivated style is necessary to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly integrated team environment.
